Valparaiso's Own History Is Eglin's History

Chicago industrialist John B. Perrine organized the Valparaiso Development Company in 1918, and the city received its municipal charter in 1921. After Perrine's death and his company's bankruptcy, Chicago businessman James E. Plew bought the assets, founded the Bank of Valparaiso in 1924, and built the Valparaiso Inn. In 1933, a 137-acre parcel was cleared as the Valparaiso Airport, and by June 14, 1935, that same site became the Valparaiso Bombing and Gunnery Base — the installation renamed Eglin Field in 1937. The Fort Walton Beach/Destin airport's code, VPS, still traces directly back to Valparaiso's name today.

The city runs its own municipal Building Department, separate from Okaloosa County's process, at its City Hall on South John Sims Parkway. Valparaiso's Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida, open since 1971, sits on the town's original main street in a building that once housed the second home of Valparaiso State Bank and later the first campus of Okaloosa-Walton Junior College in 1964 — a genuinely unique local landmark most competitors never mention. In April 2026, Valparaiso's fire department joined a new “Boundary Drop Response Model” with neighboring Niceville and East Niceville fire departments, dispatching whichever unit is closest regardless of city line — a current, real sign of how tightly this small city coordinates with its neighbors.

Our approach: we pull permits through Valparaiso's own Building Department, and we size gutter and roofing systems for a town whose housing sits directly against the same Eglin reservation its own history helped create.

More Than Gutters — The Full Exterior

GuttersTech handles the exterior trades Valparaiso's homes need most, so an owner isn't coordinating separate contractors for the roof, the siding, and the gutters underneath both of them.
